Julian Martinez Orosco – artist/oil painter
As a Mexican-American artist, I live in Texas with a
dual ancestry. I see my last name and live the life of a descendant
of Mexican-Spanish Europeans of the state of San Luis Potosi, who
came north to Texas more than 100 years ago. But I also know that my
maternal line goes back to the indigenous people known as
Guachichiles, the Aztec word for sparrows. Like so many other
people, I have multiple cultures and histories to consider when I
think about who I am and what I am doing on this earth.
My soul has many rooms and doorways. With my soul and through my
soul I share my artwork with you.
As a prolific painter, I can be found in my studio late into the
night. Son of Mestizo parents, both cultures are reflected in my
work. While painting, I work with many materials, such as oils,
acrylics, automotive paint, charcoal, conte, latex, pencil, and ink.
My paintings are on heavy canvas, heavy cotton paper and other
materials measuring in various sizes.
